From Cost-Shifting to Sustainability: Actionable Health Plan Strategies for High Renewals
For the average company outside big tech, the health plan now costs about 80% as much as its total profits, up from about 60% a decade ago. With more employers facing renewals of 15% or higher, nearly a third could see profits fall 10% or more unless something changes, and raising the deductible again doesn't fix that.
In this session, Nick Reber, Garner's founder and CEO, and Kirk Czonstka, Garner's SVP of Strategic Alliances, walk through what employers can do instead. You'll hear why the way plans pay for care is the opposite of how companies pay for business travel, why a knee replacement in New York City can cost anywhere from about $20,000 to more than $60,000 with no link to complication rates, and why members choose doctors rather than procedures. Nick then shares two client results. A self-funded group ran 17% below national trend over two years, and a fully insured group turned a 21% renewal into a 5% decrease. The two close with audience questions on how HR can make the case to finance, the smallest groups Garner works with, and how the model performs for rural employees.
For any employer whose renewal now comes up in profit discussions with the CFO, this webinar lays out options that go further than shifting more cost onto employees.
